1) Unique Shopping
Charleston manages to sustain plenty of unique shops, particularly as you move north and away from the touristy bits of the historic center. At the start of the sprawl of Upper King Street you can find the shopping strip in town. Make sure you visit the Blue Bicycle Books for some peace of mind. Some new great mom & pop shops are popping up on nearby Cannon Street. Take a breather just a block off King at St. Phillip Street’s chic Hope & Union, one of the city’s best coffee bars.
2) The Beaches
Charleston has the harbor, the Battery, and the village of Sullivan’s Island has the ocean and pristine sand. Discover the appealing, mostly residential island on foot.
3) Memorable Walks
One of the best things about Charleston is how long you can be there without ever needing your car. The core of the city is compact, safe and walkable.
4) Fabulous Food
Charleston loves to eat, and boasts numerous fabulous, high-end restaurants. If you eat just one thing influenced by Charleston, it should be that famous low country dish, shrimp and grits.
5) The Lovely Low Country
Charleston is renowned as South Carolina’s most perfectly formed and preserved old town; you might just find yourself wishing you’d planned a vacation here instead.
